SWA Summer Newsletter

Welcome to the SWA summer newsletter 2009!

This year has been massively successful for the SWA. Four core events, three wave events and of course the huge Aussie Kiss Seven have all been hosted by different universities around the UK. The only way to describe AK7 was EPIC. Over 500 students rocked up for a full on weekend of socialising, partying and let us not forget windsurfing! This was a record number of students by anyone’s standards, the skills range was awesome right from people who have never been on a windsurf board to the impressive Club Vass All Stars, including PWA superstar Andy “Bubble” Chambers.
Following on from the smash hit of AK7 was Nottingham Pondlife, this was possibly the coldest event of the SWA calendar 2008-2009, that’s excluding Exeter Wave X and Cardiff Surfari! An SWA event would not be complete without a healthy dose of cold water, rain and the odd bit of frost bite: only combated by large amounts of highly attractive neoprene and the previous nights face paint! The three other core events: Banana Republic at Cambridge, Cardiff: Return of the reservoir dogs and Southampton BUCS Nationals all showcased the passion and drive that the SWA has for windsurfing and the partying!

Exeter Wave X kicked off the 2008-2009 SWA RRD/EZZY wave series and was followed by Cardiff Surfari and Southampton Qui Est La Papa? These may not have been the windiest or waviest wave events ever, however, all three were a resounding success and a fantastic atmosphere continued through all of the events. A massive thank you to all the Universities that hosted events.

Presenting the new SWA committee:
The new SWA committee has been in charge for a few months now and its time that we reveal their fetching faces! Leading the fantastic six is President: Alan Delaney. Al has been involved with the SWA for several years now and has stepped up to the plate to lead the SWA into the future. Mr Taffy Osborne has been a veteran of Bristol Windsurfing Club for literally years! Within the SWA Taffy is our new IT and communications guru. Sponsor Manager, Nick Bentley, has spent most of the summer honing his windsurfing skills in Greece.
Keeping all the lads in check is Lucy Perkins who has taken on the epic challenge of Treasurer and Company Secretary of the SWA. The beautiful Philly Morris is the SWA Events Manager. Philly’s role is to coordinate and organise AK8 and to oversee all the core and wave events within the 2009-2010 calendar. Last, but not least, the new Media Manager is Beth Sangwine, when not busily catching babies, Beth can be found attempting not to injure herself while windsurfing.

As well as new committee we also have a new director, Chris Beng. Previous SWA-team member and media manager Chris will be working alongside the well known Beaker Lindley and Phil Cutter and watching over the committee at work and play!!
