NEWS IN BRIEF>>
Now Summer is officially here, as the days get longer, the water gets warmer (well slightly) and the wind keeps blowing there has never been a better time to be a windsurfer in the UK. All the events so far this year have been massive successes and a huge thanks must go to all the unis that have put in the effort in organising their events. You can read all about the Exeter Wave event in this month's windsurf magazine and look out for a report on the Bristol event in a future issue.

Congratulations are due to two of the SWA founders Sarah 'Spleen' Gebbett and Andy Bramah who have both announced recent engagements to their other halves, we wish all 4 of you many happy, fun and windy years together. No sign of JP settling down any time soon but that's the way we like him ;)

Around this time of year many of you start planning road trips round Europe and last year saw a large number of SWA vans converging on the Morroccon coastline. If you're planning a trip then put a post in the forum so we know which beach to look out for you on!

Interested in joining the SWA committee? No prior experience required, just a love for the sport and a smile on your face! Find out more about how you can get involved with the organisation that has been described by one top level UKWA windsurfer as "the best thing to happen to UK windsurfing since the popularity boom of the 80's".

With one core event left the results are looking pretty tight with 1 point separating the top 2 in men's racing and an equal first in freestyle. In the ladies competition there's 2 points separating the top 2 but with race and freestyle counting at the nationals the competition is still wide open and almost any of the girls on the leaderboard could win the sail donated by Naish.  The BUSA nationals in Southampton on 21st-22nd April is the last event in the core series and it's always a biggie. This is the event which sorts the men from the boys with a big racing fleet on the open water for the advanced and possibly intermediates and the serenity of the lagoon for beginners. It also signals the return of team relay racing after a nail biting set of races last year with Southampton narrowly edging out Bristol on the Sunday. It will also see the last freestyle competition of the Boardwise series on the Sunday.

It seems as though the planned wave event at Rhosneigr will not happen but Southampton and local shop spot on water have stepped up to the mark to hold a unique event in its place to complete the SWA RRD/Ezzy wave trilogy. The event will be held in Christchurch bay on the South coast near Southampton and if you pick up a copy of Windsurf or Boards this month you'll see there's a lot of potential for waves at the two main beaches in the bay, Avon beach and Highcliffe. For more info on the event see the SWA site here.

QUICK-QUESTION BOX:

SWA: So how excited are you about being the next Exeter Windsurf president?
Liss: Wooooohhhhhoooooooo..
SWA: 'nuff said!

Exeter's Wave event seems to be getting windier every year it runs, only 5 years ago their first event was plagued by no-wind conditions and a surfing competition was run instead, since then each year the event picks up bigger and better conditions each winter and this year saw storm force winds that broke both people and kit. Find out more about 'the 50 year storm' here. Start getting your quiver of 2m sails ready for next year!

Despite a lack of windsurfing at the London boat show this year the Imperial boys and girls ran London's first ever Dirt windsurf event in Hyde park with support from TurfDog and Tushingham/Starboard. Find out what the park wardens thought of the SWA here.

Bristol/UWE's imaginations ran into overdrive this spring as they devised a filthy fetish event with a party to rival even the legendary Aussie Kiss! 3 Live bands, Fetish costumes, surf simulators and another weekend of fantastic wind and sun made the whole event a great success, find out more here.
