SWA E-Newsletter #2

SWA FESTIVAL>>        2007-08 EVENT DATES>>         SWA HOLIDAY>>        SWA COMMITTEE>>

I can see it now: the darkest depths of summer. You’re sitting at home, watching the forecast as floods and more rain appear on the weather chart and sweep across the UK. You’re desperately wondering how you can afford to get out of the country to make the most of the sun and waves in Morocco, or wind in the Canaries...

Well, we’re charitable here at the SWA and would like to make your day, week or perhaps even month with a tiny snippet of infotainment. Do not despair!

I’m going to cut straight to the chase, let me please tell you all about a little event, attended and loved by hundreds of people each year, called the Aussie Kiss… If you didn’t manage to attend last year’s excellent shindig then now is your time to make amends!

The Aussie Kiss 6ix is coming to a university windsurfing club near you so make sure you ask, nag and beg your new windsurfing captain to sign you up as soon as term starts to reserve your place. This fine event is aimed at getting beginners on the water for the first time, as well as finely tuning the skills of those that can already windsurf. With a whole host of fit, athletic and some would say ruggedly handsome instructors, the Aussie Kiss is THE event to attend if you want to take your windsurfing to the next level.

Taking place on the 26-28th October at Roadford Reservoir and Bude Holiday Park in Cornwall, assign it to memory, scribble it on your hand or tell your mum, because it would be criminal to forget this huge weekend!

Long known as an event with a bloody brilliant party attached, this years Aussie Kiss 6ix is also going officially band crazy. Featured on Beaker’s rather snazzy mp3 player on our website, Monkey Militia will be headlining the Saturday night, with The Measure and New Groove Formation also providing for some rather funky entertainment throughout the weekend.

This year we have booked every single bed available so even if you're not a student anymore or if you have friends that just don't believe your tall stories of crowdsurfing-wetsuitclad mania then they are all welcome to come sample it for themselves...

"Hurry up, hurry up!” I hear you cry, for now is the time we get to reveal to you this years eagerly awaited theme…drum roll please… accompanying all of the above will be none other than a very bad “Wild Wild West Country” fancy dress for the Saturday night!  So start scouring the land for your very own magic combination of cowboy hats and Wellington boots: it’s a winner!

If all this sounds great but a tiny little bit far away for true joy then you probably need to hear some news about this year’s SWA Holiday…

What are you looking forward to most about AK6ix?

SAM: Getting so many students out on the water and having a good time, particularly new people who haven't been exposed to the joys of windsurfing before. Oh and of course I'm looking forward to the massive party on the saturday night and showing new students that windsurfers really know how to party....

The SWA holiday rollercoaster has stopped off at many a superb windsurfing destination over the years and this year, with a little bit of help from our showbiz pals Neilson, we’re checking out the delights of Turkey…

Ortakent in Turkey will provide you not only with the tan to impress the new freshers, but also a full work out as you can strut your stuff in the following ways: waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing, snorkelling, kayaking and WINDSURFING, plus a whole host of onland activities for those a little too keen for their own good….

Departing on the 17th September for 7 nights, this is surely the best way for those of you who’ve been working far too hard all summer to let your hair down, or equally the crowning moment for those of you seasoning or jollying it up elsewhere to come along and show the others what they’ve been missing out on!

The cost for the entire week including flights from LGW, return airport transfers, 7 nights accommodation, breakfast and lunch daily, four evening meals; not to mention the windsurfing, sailing, use of equipment, RYA tuition and all other activities, amounts to a mere £440.  Absolute bargain!

Now you may or may not be aware that there is a very lovely little group of splendid people behind this SWA lark and we’re proud to announce this year’s group of crazy, inhibited committee members!

Sam’s the man this year as his sleek, blonde good looks are lending a hand to running our little organisation as President and Aussie Kiss event manager. Phil, Beaker and Sarah, current directors, will be sticking around for another year of mind-numbing keenicity, however they are all loving the chance to embrace our new starlets.

The Aussie Kiss team will be made up of the following: Steve Jordan (Birmingham), Tommy P(Nottingham), Erica Phillips (York), Jess Longley (Imperial), Dave Dawson (Southampton), Katie Langham (Bristol), Dom Bostock (Exeter), John Downing (UWE) and the lovely Vics Warner (Cardiff).

Wow, what a lovely eclectic mix from around the country and combined with all that’s in store for next year, it looks like this could even be the best year yet…….

I decided not to give a tramp any money as he'd only spend it on booze and drugs...but then I realised that that was all I was going to spend it on!"
