Naked punting, anyone?...

Cambridge Windsurfing Event as always owes a lot to the guys at Churchill

College who, once again, allowed us to crash Cambridge's cheesiest Friday

night bop. There were mixed feelings about the charity strip show and

auction that kicked off the evening. Whist some visitors joined in and

signed up for the strip as well, others felt that they could get naked

hairy men for free and were less keen to bid. I think we were all relieved

when everyone was dressed again and the bop began.

Saturday brought a few storms across and so equipment choice was somewhat

confused. They soon passed though leaving a slight off-shore breeze that

delighted no one. The advanced sailors we not to be deterred and one design

racing quickly got under way. Not only were there two mens' divisions,

there was also a six person strong ladies' division. Uphauling the huge

7.5m sails proved something of a challenge, but I don't think anyone could

fault us on competitiveness. It turns out that dropping your sail on your

competitors head is a valid tactic!

The party was what many people came for. I am not sure Cambridge

city was entirely ready for 100 semi-naked students dressed as Aztecs, but

most people were well received.

Sunday morning brought hangovers, bacon sandwiches and of course PUNTING.

Points were awarded for still being in costume and for not wearing anything

at all.

By the time everyone got to Grafham water on Sunday, most hangovers had

worn off and everyone was ready for freestyle. For the first time we had

one design freestyle courtesy of Exocet who kindly lent us some of their

new Kona boards to demo.

I think it was safe to say that a fantastic time was had by all. Thanks to

The SWA and all their sponsors for their support and thanks to all the

universities who came all the way to Cambridge to make this event possible.
