Cardiff's Eurotrash Extravanza - what went down...

The Cardiff wave event took place over the weekend of the 3rd to the 5th of November and with the major blow of teeny swell and minimal wind, alternative plans were to be made… Everyone loves impromptu fun!  Friday night the Imperial lot turned up shortly followed by Southampton, and as per usual in the excitement of the prospect of a weekend of outdoors action and partying, the Snakey-B’s and tequila’s started flowing. With less numbers than expected it would have been rude not to head into the union club for lots of crazy dancing action to carry on the night for many more hours.

Saturday morning we headed west, rocking up at Rest Bay in Porthcawl armed with too many beach activities to carry. A very chilled day was had by all, volley ball started the activities (trying to put it up was an activity in itself!), a highly competitive match indeed. The diablos, juggling clubs, Frisbee, dizzy relays and football were enjoyed all day. Southampton University, hats off to you, you were the most active out of us all, straight away rigging up windsurf gear Pro, though promptly the sails were abandoned for skim boarding and magnum riding/ surfing.

The Saturday night fiesta proved a huge success and Eurotrash is a theme never to be forgotten. Everywhere you looked: leather, hair gel, dodgy tashes, bright colours, rubbish bags, cleavage and nakedness! The best fancy dress prizes went to Lucy Perkins from Cardiff, Crispy from Southampton and JP for their fantastic efforts. The party continued at the Windsurf House in Cardiff, with a banging house party into the early hours.

Sunday morning saw as standard a slightly later start, but on arrival at Rest Bay the sun was shining bright and there was a slight bit more of a breeze. The turfdogs were well utilised, courtesy of Adam at Southampton and Mark from Boardwise. Chris Beng from Imperial even managed to pull off some forwards. Everyone got heavily involved in an inter-university sandcastle competition, with designs ranging from a 3D windsurfer to the pyramids in Egypt. Imperial won the competition, closely followed by Southampton and Cardiff bringing up the rear. A raffle for the Surfers Against Sewage charity was more opportunity to give away prizes, and £20.49 was raised. The women’s prizes have been awarded to Sarah Bibby from Southampton and Ellie Boyle from Cardiff for their enthusiasm, winning themselves each a Naish harness voucher.

The event was an awesome success despite the windsurfing conditions. It really was fantastic to spend perhaps one of the last sunny weekends at the beach at the stunning Porthcawl, with fellow fun-loving chilled out windsurfers. Attacking the hangovers how we know best outside by the water until the sun set.
