In the first weekend of February, a few of you windsurfers and party people made your way down to Plymouth for Plym-Ex 2019!

After a long snowy journey for most people, everyone arrived and was sent off to one of three houses where they were based for the weekend.

The weekend was kicked off in classic Plymouth style, with a house party hosted at the president, social sec and secretary's house. With some banging tunes and plenty of free drinks, the party slowly built as more and more people from other uni’s arrived. The first night went down a treat with people making plenty of new friends and seeing old ones. Beer pong was played and dance moves thrown around the kitchen, until people started slipping off to get some rest for the weekend ahead.

Jon B (Plymouth President): Saturday morning consisted of an early start, but we powered through the hangover and cooked everyone bacon and egg sandwiches. Windsurfers were up early and off to drive an hour and a half to Gwithian for the competition. For the rest of us it wasn’t so slick - the day consisted of naps, cleaning up and visiting a closer beach. Whilst we were doing that the competition was in full swing!

Alice R (Plymouth Windsurf Sec): After meeting at RB Sails for a short briefing, we headed to Gwithian! A while later, everyone was briefed, rigged, changed and ready. After a little windsurf downwind to the competition area, the day was off to a great start and an amazing day.

Jim D-B (Puravida): We were faced with freezing temperatures and challenging winds in Cornwall, but as the snow melted and the sun came out all the students stepped up to the plate and took it on at Gwithian. 

...I have to say how stoked I am to see the sheer progression in the riders’ skills and experience between events!  They learn so much from the comps and the other riders that their own skills are coming along rapidly - you can really see what it’s all about on the Student Wave tour!

Alice R: With large amounts of whitewater, it was hard to get out the back, however the waves were a good size to have a go and get some points. After the final heat, the tide was beginning to come in and make the conditions on the beach unfavourable so the day came to an end on the water and everyone came in for the prize giving and trying to get changed wherever they could.

Meanwhile, the party crew were back at the house or in a pub to watch the rugby then threw some pizzas in the oven for the hungry masses.

Jon B: Saturday night was incredible, starting with some pre-drinks and everyone gradually morphing into childhood-TV-show fancy dress. Then some light frivolities may have induced some toe-sucking, lost eyebrows and handstand shots. After that we all headed to the Pryzm night club with our own private bar and more free drinks waiting for us. It was a long and fun night - there was no wind forecast for Sunday so everyone went full 10/10 on the night out! In the aftermath we realised someone had taken the Plymouth club flag but thank you to whoever returned it,  it's nice to have it back. I hope everyone had as good weekend as I did!
